#025 DETERMINANT STORE, BEIJING

INTERIOR DESIGN & VISUAL MERCHANDISING

How do you retail one white shirt in 48 sizes?

The brand "Determinant" speaks of the martix of shirt sizes, that every man can find their shirt size at Determinant. We take the idea "The determinant of a matrix" : Central to the space is a piece of furniture that echoes the idea of multiplicity of the Shirt Brand, DETERMINANT: one white shirt in 48 sizes.

A main furniture as a transformable device, taking the idea of "The Trunk Show", echoes with the presence of a clothing trunk, that opens up and reveals an internal grid formed by a matrix of plains through cuts at different axis.

The cuts are choreographed to fulfil functional need of a shirt folding table, vertical hanging display, horizontal folded displays and inventory storage. It is a device for shirts and also an installation piece in space, which guides the shoppers to wander around the trunks as displays to discover the shirts in various formats.

The Determinant store is thus designed as an abstracted stage set through using a consistent color of brand color blue as a backdrop, with various of these "trunks", as mobile units standing in space performing the function as a retail shop.

The design of the mobile trunks also fulfils a long run Retail issue: the fast demolition of stores throughout malls in the world; the mobile trunks are reusable, one can simply move the trunks to a new location and reuse them as display objects repeatedly.
